Hi Sam,

How have you got on with finding out about your ski boots. I am off skiing in january and have been offered the chance to pre-book all of my boots, ski's and goggles etc so that they are ready for me when I arrive. I guess the best option for you would be to ring the rental company prior to booking a ski trip. This way you can double check that they have your size etc rather than arriving and being unable to hit the slopes.

Keep us updated and maybe even post some pictures up if you do go skiing soon.

Not too sure about the rental scenario as it varies so greatly with where you go. I work as a ski instructor and have size 15 feet, the only company that makes boots of this size to suit my needs are salomon(xwave 10 boot) i think the size is 31.5cm. It will give you a big advantage to have your own boots if its something you are looking to do on a regular basis, comfortable feet and boots that fit mean all the movements you make are transfered to your skis directly, and you dont spend all day in pain whilst wearing the biggest pair of size 13s they have

I agree with BlackWidow - years ago I spent a week in agony on a snowboarding holiday in boots that were 2 sizes too small, and now my knees are wrecked. I don't know for sure that the boots caused all my problems, but they certainly didn't help!

I would definitely recommend getting your own boots. The last time I tried to "pre-book" boots in size 15 (snow-boarding boots at that time), I ended up with boots that didn't fit and having to buy some boots at the resort. I was lucky they had some in my size or it would have been a disaster! If you read the small-print, it will always say that pre-booked boot sizes are not guaranteed, which is a total cop-out if you ask me!

I have a pair of Nordica ski boots and Burton snow-boarding boots. Both fit comfortably.

I am off skiing next week so thought I best help you out!

I am a size 14 (32.5) and managed to get some boots from a shop in Devon (Devon Ski @ http://www.devonski.co.uk/). The guy there had about 5 pairs in stock in a size 32 - 33. I would suggest giving them a call - they were really helpful with me, I was in the shop for about 2 hours trying them on and getting the fit right.

DONT BUY ONLINE - Unless you know your exact boot/size already. The fit varies so much it isnt worth the risk. For example, I tried on a size 33 which felt smaller than a 32.

I got a pair of Rossingol's for £120, custom fitted in store as well.

We have paid for all of our hire already but Thomson couldnt guarentee the size and therefore if I got there and they had no boots, I would be sitting in the hotel all day... not a risk I was willing to take.
